Damascus Scramasax Knife |
Damascus Scramasax Knife @2009 Michael H. Mara The scramasax or seax was carried by Vikings and Saxons, who took their name from them, from the 4th through the 10th centuries. It was used as an eating utensil and general tool, as well as a close quarters weapon. Due to the unique blade shape, they could pierce chain mail. They were worn crosswise in a horizontal belt sheath, carried either at the front or rear of the body. This Scramasax features a 9” dropped point, convex ground, 128 layer high and medium carbon birdseye Damascus blade with a 3” false top edge. Hardened to HRC 59. The knife is 13 1/2” overall, with a Maple burl handle and matched Damascus fittings, with an extensively fileworked spine and ricasso. The sheath was custom made for the customer. $748 SOLD
